Description
Shakyamuni Buddha, the historical Buddha who lived around 600 BC, is the founder of Buddhism. Representations of him are typically simple, with minimal decoration. He is usually depicted scantily dressed, with blue hair and an aura of enlightenment. In meditation posture (Dhyanasana), he holds a begging bowl in his left hand, and his right hand touches the ground in the Bhumisparsa mudra, calling the earth to witness his path to enlightenment. His two main students are often shown beside him. The mantra associated with Shakyamuni Buddha is "Om Muni Muni Maha Muniya Soha."
