Description
Palden Lhamo is a revered female guardian deity in Tibetan Buddhism, notably among the Gelugpa school. As the only female among the eight Dharmapalas, she is depicted riding a mule across a sea of blood. She has a dark, blue-black complexion, sagging breasts, flaming eyebrows, and a mustache. She carries a cup made from the skull of her own child, a product of an incestuous act, and is surrounded by a string of fifteen severed heads. A bright sun disc appears in her navel. Her mantra is: “Jo Ramo Jo Ramo Jo Jo Ramo Tunjo Kala Rachenmo Ramo Aja Daja Tunjo Rulu Rulu Hum Jo Hum.
