Buddha Shakyamuni, the historical founder of Buddhism, lived around 600 BC. Depicted in meditation posture with scant clothing, his hair is usually blue, and he has an enlightenment aura. He holds a begging bowl in his left hand and touches the ground with his right (Bhumisparsa mudra), calling the earth to witness his path to enlightenment. His two main students often accompany him.
