Description
Buddha Shakyamuni, the historical Buddha from around 600 BC, is the founder of Buddhism. He is often depicted simply, scantily dressed with blue hair and an enlightenment aura. Shown in meditation posture (Dhyanasana), he holds a begging bowl in his left hand, and his right hand touches the ground in the "Bhumisparsa" mudra, symbolizing his call to the earth as a witness to his path to enlightenment. His two favorite students are usually by his side. The mantra is: "OM MUNI MUNI MAHA MUNIYA SOHA."
